Community Kitchen
Through collective food purchasing and preparation, and donations from local orchardists, community kitchen helps members create nutritious, affordable and efficient meals, while meeting social needs. Members learn how to shop on a budget; learn how preserve, freeze, dehydrate and can foods. Pre and postnatal women receive weekly food vouchers. A nutritious lunch is provided for $2.50. An on site child minder is present.
Men's Counselling
Provides individual and/or group counselling based on the needs of men who would like to improve their relationships, reduce stress and manage conflict. (Funded by BC Gaming and Community Donations)
Women's Crisis Line
This service provides 24 hour support to women 16 years and older who live in the South Okanagan. The telephone crisis line is increasingly proving to be a much needed service in the community to women who are lonely, depressed and suicidal
Children and Youth's T-shirt Fund Raiser
T-shirts are $25.00 each and can be purchased at Desert Sun Counselling in Oliver or Silver Sage Winery. Proceeds from the t-shirts go to providing direct service to the children and youth who access the program.
Annual Grand Night Gala
For the past eight years Desert Sun has held the "Grand Night", an evening of dinner, dancing, silent auction and a draw for $1000.00. Each year a different theme is chosen to build the event around. Past theme have included "A Winter in New York", "An Evening in Paris", "A Night at the Oscars", "An Enchanted Evening in Wine Country", "Carnival By Moonlight", A Captain's Gala Dinner". Local chefs donate their culinary skills to provide amazing meals. Proceeds go to support our local Safe Home Program, Community Kitchen and other programming at Desert Sun. The event is held the 3rd weekend in January, the past two years the event has been held at the WaterMark Beach Resort in Osoyoos. Planning is underway for the 9th Grand Night, which will be held on Saturday January 25, 2014!
Fashion Show: Accessory Fashion will be held at the WaterMark Beach Resort wine bar on May 29, 2013. Tickets are $25.00 dollars. Contact Desert Sun at 250-498-2538 for more information.
